Gym Availability and Rental F.A.Q
Every year from September – May there are hundreds of youth programs and schools that are looking for indoor space to work with kids. Each fall and winter season is very busy with tons of youth groups and clubs scrambling for gym time and calling Court One.
Several variables that affect this need for space are; competitors going out of business, schools running out of funding, costs of running an athletic facility increasing and an added effort to increase youth sports and activities to fight childhood obesity.
Court One has always wanted to take an active role in fighting childhood obesity and maintain strong advocacy for those groups that are making it their effort. Every year we get a lot of great questions from our members about the amount of time we let these groups use inside our facility. Below are some of the questions with answers to better explain our thought process when making these very tough decisions.
A. We value our members and appreciate the loyalty that they show us. Every year we do our best to balance the amount of gym space we reserve for members and the time we give to community groups. There is simply a large need from the community and not enough private businesses or community centers to fill that need. Not all kids can afford a gym membership, but as part of a large group the costs are lower to the individual. We have a strong loyalty to our members but also to our community.
A. The money that we make from renting the facility has went to creating additional programs, purchasing new equipment and upgrades to the facility specifically for our members. Our prices have not been raised in 12 years, the only exception was in 2005, one time yearly fee of $19 was added. We know that times are tough and we do not want to pass on additional expenses to our members that we don’t have to. Every year the cost of doing business has increased; utilities, towels, pool regulations changing, wages, more competitors and new equipment have all affected business dramatically. Renting out our facility does help our bottom line but it also helps us keep our prices low while maintaining our commitment to the community we have proudly served for 33 years.
A. In years past, we have taken some time from East and time from North and it made it very complicated and difficult for members to keep track of. We posted it all over each club but were still running into issues. This year in an effort to better serve our families and to make remembering the schedule easier to remember, we moved all gym rentals to North. We also did a small survey of members and employees and the feedback on this idea was good. It would allow us to help out the groups in the community and also keep open basketball available at East.
A. These groups are made up of members and non-members. In most cases if a group would like to rent gym space from us we would ask them to promote membership to their participants. In most cases the group is glad to promote a membership to Court One which helps us justify the gym rental if there is a large amount of members participating. These groups are primarily made up of school/home school organizations, youth AAU teams, local clubs, families and members.
A. Currently anyone that is asking to reserve any “court time” whether it is on the basketball courts, tennis courts or batting cages will have to pay to rent it. If you call on the same day we will definitely know what is availble and there would be no charge for using the space. A charge applies only when space is reserved for a specific group and when it is not just prior to playing or when there is open availability.
A. The North facility will be rented out from 5pm-10pm Monday through Friday. There might be a few hours of availability in which case we would be glad to have members use the courts. The gym rentals will go from November – May.
A. Any additional gym availability will be posted at North along with a schedule of events through the new year. If you have any questions about a specific day please just give us a call. East is not rented out so that members can go play basketball or use the gym whenever they would like.
